Rheological Additive is an organophilic modified smectite product designed for use in low to medium till higher polarity solvent system. BESTGEL 380 provides high gelling efficiency, reproducible thixotropic and viscosity; exters strong film reinforcing action in organic binder systems ; high degree of sag control and preventing hard settling of pigments and fillers, reducing misting ; increase plastic viscosity and “yield value’ of inks.

■ INCORPORATION

BESTGEL 380 can be incorporated into organic liquids using either shear or high speed dispersing equipment. Optimum gelling efficiency is usually obtained when the proper degree of mechanical, chemical energy are applied to the system. The polar activator such as propylene carbonate, methanol/water (95/5), ethanol/water (95/5), or acetone acts as a wedge to help open up the clay platelets and developing maximum gellation. The relative amount of polar activator may from 30% to 60% by weight of BESTGEL 380 depending on the system. Use levels of BESTGEL 380 are generally 0.2-2.0% by weight of the system.
